WHO ARE WE?
SIPHAR is a Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company founded in Burundi in 2002 to improve access to essential medicines.
Being the first private manufacturer, the company was seeking to be the first to go where others have never ventured to go.
Our Plant establishment is in line with the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan of Action for Africa, the East African Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan of Action and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The plant also seeks to take advantage of the flexibilities provided by the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) on access to affordable and safer medicines for the poor.
The idea behind the existence of SIPHAR is, to help correct the imbalance that the country suffers in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector compared to other countries in the East African Community (EAC).

Based in Bujumbura now, Mrikunj Dhillon is the face of all our initiatives in the country and region. A Post Graduate in Business Management (HR & Finance) from one of India’s top management institutes NMIMS, Mumbai and starting his career in banking with one of India’s largest banks ICICI Bank. He has spent 10 years in the Banking & Finance sector gathering valuable work experience in various departments like HR & Training, Net Banking ops, Credit Cards, Mutual Fund Ops & Overseas Project Transitions with J.P. Morgan India. His expertise lies in project management & execution, optimising operations, managing stakeholder relationships and evaluating new business opportunities. .
Pierre Claver Niyonizigiye is B.A. - LLB in public Administration and held various leadership positions in the public and private sectors. In 2003, he joined SIPHAR S.A as Director of Human Resources and before joining SIPHAR, he was actively involved in the negotiation of fiscal and non fiscal incentives in favor of the company as an independent consultant.
He is vey much involved in the activities of the EAC secretariat with regard to Pharmaceutical Manufacturing where SIPHAR is among founding members of the East African Pharmaceutical Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers (FEAPM) and was elected Board member since 2011 till date.
